1st NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON BIOREMEDIATION
Trader's Hotel, Roxas Blvd., Pasay City 26-27 October 2010
"Addressing the Problems and Solutions of Environmental Pollution through Bioremediation"
CONFERENCE RATIONALE
Bioremediation is the use of plants and microorganisms, or bioprocesses to detoxify or degrade environmental pollutants to concentrations established as safe by regulatory agencies. Pollution and various forms of biotic and abiotic disturbances are complex problems not only locally but worldwide. Modern science and technology combined with management on social and economic activities are progressively contributing to the solution of these problems. Although considerable work on bioremediation has been and is presently being conducted, a multidisciplinary platform for ecologists, environmental engineers and chemists, management professionals and local government units to discuss the latest developments in bioremediation research and applications will be very helpful for protecting our environment.
The general objective of the First National Conference on Bioremediation is to provide a major interdisciplinary venue for presenting new approaches on relevant areas of bioremediation technology and to forge collaborations and linkages with scientists and institutions doing researches in this area and related fields. This conference also aims to come up with a national agenda on bioremediation for the rehabilitation of the damaged environment and for the management of recalcitrant wastes.
